EFIB 2010 proves again to be the most prominent event in Europe

EuropaBio and IntertechPira are pleased to announce the unrivalled agenda for the European Forum for Industrial Biotechnology 2010.
Taking place at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa Edinburgh on 19-21 October 2010, this year's EFIB will bring you 2 pre-conference workshops, 2 plenary sessions, 3 tracks, an exhibition, a poster display, 1-TO-1 Partnering and drinks reception at the Edinburgh Castle alongside other social events.
The programme features over 60 speakers from governments, industry, end users, NGOs, academia, and research institutes. For the first time, the conference will be complemented by the 1-TO-1 Partnering allowing the participants to identify and meet with potential partners in private meetings arranged prior to the event.
'Every year we are trying to deliver more value to EFIB attendees. This year we will introduce the partnering tool that will maximize the networking opportunities. We have also brought more government representatives into the programme in order to establish EFIB as the platform that helps to determine the successful development of a biobased economy in Europe,' said Dr Dirk Carrez, Director - Industrial Biotechnology at EuropaBio.
The event will kick off with 2 pre-conference workshops. The first one is designed to help start-ups and small businesses to understand markets and discover financing techniques and will be delivered by Larry Drum of Biotechnology International Corporation and Martin Austin of Transformrx. The second one will be dedicated to marine biotechnology and will feature presentations from UK's Centre for Process Innovation, Biotec Marine Biochemicals, UPEI, European Science Foundation and others.
The main conference, taking place on Wednesday and Thursday, will be divided into plenary sessions and 3 tracks focused on Feedstock; Policy, Business and Finance; and Innovation.
Plenary sessions will feature the keynote from the UK government, analysis of IB from the industry, European Commission, Australian and OECD perspectives as well as end user case studies. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from John Sime of Biosciences KTN, Ian Hudson of DuPont, Ian Schott of Industrial Biotechnology Leadership Forum, Stephen Tanda of DSM, Maive Rute of European Commission, Dr Michael Carus of Nova-Institute, Dr David A. Benko of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Dr Karl Sanford of Genencor, Alistair Reid of Akzo Nobel, Timothy O'Connell of Henkel, Kate Le Strange of Government of Australia, Iain Gillespie of OECD and Philipp Hasler of Emerlad Technology Ventures. Closing address will be given by the renowned expert in this field, Prof Bruce E. Dale of Michigan University.
The Feedstock track will examine the issue of the 'indirect land use change' (ILUC) on Wednesday and look into the relation of industrial crops and agriculture policy on Thursday. This track will present representatives from WWF, BP Biofuels, European Commission, Dutch Ministry of Agriculture as well as Prof Bruce E. Dale of Michigan University and many others.
On day 1, the Policy, Business and Finance track will feature presentations from the European Commission, the Austrian Federal Ministry for Economics, Family and Youth, and EuropaBio discussing market leadership of Europe. On day 2, talks will evaluate the most effective practices reducing time of the new products to market. This session will include presenters from UKGovernment, Süd-Chemie, INRA and many others.
The Innovation track will look into the latest trends in biorefining on the day 1 and companies will present their new innovative biobased products on day 2. This track will comprise presentations from institutions such as University of Oxford, DuPont, Novozymes, Purac, GEVO.
