PVEU BannerNot a day goes by recently that my inbox isn't packed full of articles about the blossoming photovoltaic industry, but it is the aim of this blog to filter out the noise and pick out gems of information, debate the pressing issues, and hopefully draw comment from you, my PV industry peers.

Much of the world's economy is reeling from the banking crisis, but there's an air of optimism, and genuine global unity in support of PV. Despite some concerns PV Arrayover the impact of shrinkage in the Spanish market, the outlook is positive in the long term and from commentators within the industry.

Ever important, of course, is support from government authorities, so it's encouraging to see that in addition to the well publicised Obama policies on renewables, the UK is also making major steps in the right directions and China has announced a solar incentive that should see them play a major role in the future of global PV markets.

From a business perspective, there continue to be large scale deals and partnerships announced, the headline this week being First Solar taking control of Optisolar's PV line and underlining their position as market leader in the thin film sector.

Italy flagOverall the news is good, especially for new European PV markets like Italy, France and Greece, where growth is strong - Italy is projected to more than double it's capacity in 2009. For this reason, IntertechPira will host their inaugural Photovoltaics Summit Europe in Rome, on 30th June - 2nd July 2009.

With key industry figures from the European Commission, Global Solar Energy, Solaria Germany GmbH, SMA Italia, Suntech and Dyesol as well as a whole host of other expert speakers, this is an unimssable opportunity to understand how to be a part of the new European PV markets. Please visit www.pvsummiteu.com or email me at robert.stead@pira-international.com to find out more.

And don't forget - June is PV Month at IntertechPira. with over 100 delegates already registered, the Photovoltaics Summit, 1st - 3rd June in San Francisco, is one of the fastest growing PV events in the US. Go to www.photovoltaicssummit.com to find out more!
